We are looking for a motivated, hard-working and flexible Cook 1 to float among our four properties on the North Shore and in Burnaby. Based at our Summerhill PARC near Lonsdale, this Cook 1 will help support our food and beverage team across all properties. Ideally this candidate would have the ability to step into a Chef De Partie also when needed. If you are passionate about food and enjoy making a difference; this position is for you!

Cook 1 Responsibilities:

  • Floating among all four properties to support the F&B team as needed;
  • Preparing meals in accordance with the established menus and standards for portion control and quality plate presentation;
  • Providing creative input to menus, food preparation methods, and special event menus;
  • Receiving all food and supplies;
  • Ensuring the kitchen operates at the highest level of sanitation and safety.

Cook 1 Skills and Experience:

  • High school graduation or equivalent;
  • Formal training – minimum three years of experience in a similar position, Red Seal an asset;
  • Knowledge and experience in creative food preparation, accurate portion control, food preparation in accordance with menus and use of commercial kitchen equipment;
  • Ability to read, write and effectively communicate with others;
  • Strong ability to create relationships with new team members, good interpersonal skills;
  • Successfully completed Food Safe 1 and WHMIS;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide leadership when required;
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to employees and residents;
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and use good judgment;
  • Positive and cooperative attitude;
  • Empathy for and understanding of the needs of seniors, their families and their professional service providers;
  • Valid driver’s license required for travel between sites;
  • Strong ability to adapt to change and flexible working within changing work environments.
